"Lesson Study" ist eine professionelle, kooperative Lehrerfortbildung, bei der japanische Lehrer gemeinsam eine kleine Anzahl von Unterrichtsstunden systematisch untersuchen, mit dem Ziel, sie effizienter zu gestalten. Die strukturierte Methode umfasst das Planen, Unterrichten, Beobachten und die kritische Auswertung des Unterrichts. Um ihre Ziele zu fokussieren, wählen die Unterrichtenden ein übergeordnetes Ziel und damit verbundene Fragestellungen, die sie gemeinsam erforschen möchten.
Die erfolgreiche Methode stößt inzwischen auch in anderen Ländern auf Interesse.

- The Chicago Lesson Study Group
To explore the possibilites for replicating the success of Japanese lesson study in a U.S. setting, the Chicago Lesson Study Group was launched in October of 2002, with volunteer school administrators and classroom teachers who have had university student teachers in their classrooms as a part of their field experiences under the guidance of Akihiko Takahashi (DePaul University).
